What is the best way to store jewelry to prevent tarnishing? Elvie The Label explains

What is the best way to store jewelry to prevent tarnishing?

Preventing tarnishing of your beautiful jewelry is just as important as choosing the perfect pieces. Tarnishing, or oxidation, can occur on various types of metals, such as silver, brass or copper, making them appear dull and discolored. Proper storage of your jewelry can help slow this process and preserve the shine of your precious pieces. Extremely important if you ask us. That is why we have listed a number of tips for you about storing jewelry:

1. Airtight storage:
Air is one of the main factors causing oxidation. Therefore, store your jewelry in airtight containers or bags to minimize exposure to air. Ziplock bags or special jewelry bags with airtight seals are good options. A budget-friendly solution.

2. Anti-tarnish strips:
Use anti-tarnish strips or paper in your jewelry boxes. These strips contain chemicals that reduce humidity in the storage area and help prevent oxidation. Place one or two strips near your jewelry to maintain their shine.

3. Store separately:
In addition to discoloration, we also do not want any scratches on our items. Therefore, store each piece of jewelry separately to avoid friction between pieces. Use separate pockets, bags or compartments to keep them separate. This is especially important for jewelry with gemstones that can scratch other metals.

4. Dry storage:
Moisture is a real culprit and accelerates the oxidation process. Make sure your jewelry is completely dry before storing it. Avoid storing jewelry in the bathroom due to the humid environment. A dry, cool and dark storage space is ideal. Fortunately, our jewelry is made of stainless steel and does not discolor due to moisture! Yet they remain most beautiful when they remain dry.

5. Check regularly:
Check your jewelry regularly for signs of tarnish, even if it is properly stored. This allows you to respond quickly if you notice any discoloration occurring. Better safe than sorry!

By storing your jewelry properly, you can minimize oxidation and tarnishing, helping your favorite pieces maintain their shine. Proper storage practices can significantly extend the life of your jewelry so you can enjoy it for many years to come. That's what we all want of course!
